WK_03: Makith Tresendar

A nobleman and avid adventurer, Makith Tresendar set himself to the task of his life's work: to chronicle his many adventures across Faerun. His first volume, From Irragin to Mountmend, was interrupted when he made an interesting discovery. Like all serious adventurers, Makith explored the slopes of Mountmend, searching for the Spring of Eternal Life. This, as he very much anticipated, he did not find. What he did find was much, much more valuable.

Amidst a field of failing magical wards, Makith found the crypt of Mor. This was not a burial crypt but rather a storage locker filled with arcane tomes detailing both the creation and manipulation of ley lines as well as the construction of something called an "immortal chrysalis." A message with these tomes made it clear this cache was meant to draw the descendants of Mor to its discovery so that the knowledge within could be safely passed on to Mor's family.

Makith was smart enough to glean what the function of the immortal chrysalis was an knowledgeable enough to understand the value of his find. What the lacked was arcane training to make use of the information. He was also uncertain whether any curses or wards might bring him harm should he be the one to take the find. Makith found a descendant of Mor, using the detailed accounts of his lineage stored in the cache. A wizard named Mormesk, working and studying in Waterdeep was one of the rightful heirs of Mor.

Using his wealth and connections, Makith hired Mormesk to retrieve all of the tomes from the crypt of Mor and transport them back to Tresendar manor - so to bypass any wards or curses. Makith intended to study the tomes further so that he could craft the device.

Mormesk was no fool, though, and he quickly surmised his importance in Tresendar's quest. He also ascertained the intent of the tomes. However, Mormesk was an idealist and his family had been poor. He lacked the means to create his ancestor's great work. Instead of placing themselves at odds, Tresendar and Mor developed something akin to a friendship and worked together on the device, each bringing necessary skills and resources to make the project a reality.
